Rain played spoilsport in Centurion after South Africa set a target of 278 for Netherlands, and only two overs of second-innings action were possible. Netherlands started their chase and were on 11/0 when the rain started pouring. 

Kyle Verreynne (95) and Zubayr Hamza (56) starred with the bat with fifties while Andile Phehlukwayo provided the late surge as South Africa finished their 50-overs quota on 277/8.

Earlier, Netherlands skipper Pieter Seelaar won the toss and opted to have a bowl first. His decision turned out to be a fruitful one as South Africa lost their openers inside the first seven overs courtesy of Fred Klaassen.

Reeza Hendricks was the first batter to fall, getting caught at cover by van der Merwe for 6. His partner, Janneman Malan, followed suit after getting caught in the slips by Seelaar for 16 and that left the hosts at 24/2. 

The onus was on the two new batters - Verreynne and Hamza - to steady the proceedings for their side. They batted with caution and stitched a much-needed partnership. Later, at the halfway stage of the South Africa innings, they brought up their century stand. And soon, the two batters also reached their respective fifties. 

Brandon Glover's short-ball trick put an end to Hamza's impressive knock of 56 on his ODI debut after the South Africa batter mistimed a pull shot and was caught easily by the keeper. 

South Africa lost a few more wickets on the way but Verreynne remained unperturbed. He went on to make a solid 95 before falling five runs short of what would have been his first century in international cricket. His 112-ball innings was studded with nine fours and a six. Brandon Glover had him caught in the deep in the 44th over, and on the next ball, he had Wayne Parnell caught for 10. 

A late blitz from Andile Phehlukwayo, who made a blazing 22-ball 48, which featured one four and six sixes, and skipper Keshav Maharaj's 16-ball 18* guided South Africa to a competitive total.
